About The Artist
About The Artist
As a classically trained fine artist and illustrator, Merrill Robinson Jr is skilled in the nuances of painting and photography. Adept at everything from conception to publishing, Merrill’s work addresses the worldwide underrepresentation of images that elevate people of color, while showcasing the interconnectedness of the human experience. Merrill’s images arouse the mind, body and soul, and he pours his own spirit into every line drawn and stroke of color on the canvas.
Merrill always knew he wanted to inspire people through his art. A child prodigy at the age of 6, he enrolled at the American Academy of Art with icon Diane Rath and sold his first professional piece when he was 10.Since then, his career has taken his art all over the world. Merrill sharpened his skills at Morehouse College (‘90-’94), directed by internationally celebrated artists Lev Mills and Charnelle Holloway. He also graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago (‘94-’96), after intensely studying with technical masters like Joel Pace, Steven LaRose, and Rich Kryczka.
During the early 2000s, Merrill lived in the groundbreaking and historical Studioplex Residences in Atlanta, and by a divine encounter, became a close padawan to the legendary Carl Owens. The divine encounters continued, as Merrill’s life intersected with professional mentors and contemporaries like Thomas Blackshear II, Kevin A. Williams (WAK), Paul Goodnight, and the late Annie Lee.
Some of Merrill’s most widely recognized works, including “CONNECTION” and “RED KOOL AID”, have been featured in several television programs and are hosted in the home galleries of art collectors around the world. Based in Chicago and Atlanta, Merrill has been away from the art industry for over a decade, tending to his greatest calling in life -- his family, serving as a caregiver for his elderly grandmother and great-aunt. Grateful for the love he shared with his family, Merrill 2.0 is rejoining the scene and he is ready to continue his ministry of inspiring people to see the divine in themselves.
